Andhra Pradesh seeks Centre's approval for 13 new medical colleges

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked officials to get clearances from the Centre for 13 new medical colleges proposed in the state.

After the Centre had approved 3 new medical colleges for Andhra Pradesh at Piduguralla, Paderu and Machilipatnam, the state has sought approval for 13 new medical colleges. Reportedly, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to get the Centre's clearances for these proposed medical colleges.

As per the TOI report, the Chief Minister feels that the 16 medical colleges are going to be the game-changers in the public healthcare system in Andhra Pradesh. 

"Start the works on medical colleges which were yet to be commenced by May 15 at any cost. Meanwhile, we should get these projects cleared by the Centre," he said.

The Chief Minister has said that the state government wants to bring revolutionary reforms in the health sector. 16 new teaching hospitals are being established in the state and also providing GMP, WHO standard drugs in government hospitals.

Recently, while replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, Union health minister Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar had said that Andhra had sent proposals for setting up seven medical colleges at Piduguralla, Paderu, Machilipatnam, Eluru, Markapuram, Pulivendula and Vizianagaram, out of which three were approved. 

AP leads in eSanjeevani telemedicine drive

As per reports, the state has topped the list of states using the Centre's integrated telemedicine service eSanjeevani. The state had topped this list even in the previous year. Through this service, the prescribed medicines are delivered to the patient's doorstep.
