To mark the 10th anniversary of the Indian Cartoon Gallery, the Indian Institute of Cartoonists (IIC) is expected to launch one year certificate course in Cartooning. Sources share that this new course in cartooning will be announced on June 14, 2017 by IIC officials.
As part of this new course, aspirants will be trained in spheres like cartooning basics, comics, political cartoons, social cartoons, caricaturing, doodles, pocket cartoons and animation. Also, special sessions will be conducted wherein students would be educated on the growing trend of cartoons being used in advertising and business. Apart from this, aspirants would be trained “to take part in world cartoon contests as international sketches tend to differ from the Indian way of cartooning in which figures do all the speaking while avoiding messages” informed officials of Indian Institute of Cartoonists.
To offer courses in Cartooning to aspirants, Indian Institute of Cartoonists has roped in industry stalwarts like Keshav, Prabhakar Wairkar, Hemant Morparia, Shubani, Unni, BG Gujjarappa, Nagnatha, Balraj and VG Narendra (who is the managing trustee of IIC).
Indian Institute of Cartoonists comprises of a library which is known to possess 600 books on cartooning as well as related subjects from all over the world. Established in 2001, IIC set up a 5,000 sq ft cartoon gallery off Bangalore’s MG road.
