CEPT University launches PG programme in Urban Infrastructure (WASH)
CEPT University has launched a 2-year full-time master’s in urban Infrastructure with Major in WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene).
The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology or CEPT University has launched a 2-year full-time master’s in urban Infrastructure with Major in WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene). With CEPT University PG programme in urban Infrastructure, for the first time in India, students will get an opportunity to get formal higher education and training in WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene) and become planners in the urban sector.
CEPT University has launched this programme with the support of IHE Delft, Netherlands one of the pioneers in water education, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), one of the leading foundations supporting sanitation-related activities. It is also part of the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS).

The two-year PG programme in Urban Infrastructure (MUI) (major in WASH) prepares young professionals to build a career in one of the following fields:
- Forming infrastructure projects for the cities and their regions.
- Conducting and undertaking research on processes and policies of urban infrastructure development and urbanization.
- Advising on the governance of infrastructure projects and facilities in cities and their regions.
- Preparing projects and overseeing their execution in the areas of urban infrastructure in India as well as other developing countries.
The programme also exposes the students to multiple dimensions of urban infrastructure development i.e. environmental, social, political, economic and financial, and ethical dimensions of working as professional. Under this PG programme, the CEPT Faculty trains students to engage with scales from a local project to city, region and global through studio courses, theory courses, hands-on tutorials, individual capstone project and technical guided field visits in India and abroad during summer and winter schools.
With the rapid growth of cities in India, the country is facing immense pressure for the improvement of their services and infrastructure. Without trained professionals, proper coordination, and planning, these growth areas will become underserviced places of the cities facing. To address these emerging issues of urban areas, there is a need to train urban infrastructure specialists who can comprehensively plan for city’s growing infrastructure needs and formulate projects for efficient infrastructure service delivery for existing areas.
CEPT Univerity PG programme MUI (major in WASH) is open to master’s in social work, master’s in environmental science, masters in Economics, Architects, Civil Engineers, Planners. The candidates who will be selected will earn a fellowship and funded thesis/Directed Research on successful completion. WASH specialization encourages and would give preference to female candidates to apply and pursue the course.
