Assam Chief Minister inaugurates Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital and a key project.

In October 2021, Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital had got approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start classes for the ongoing session. Now, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled the Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital and a key project.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweet reads, "Today, we took a giant step in providing quality healthcare to people of our state. Glad to inaugurate Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital which is Assam's 8th Medical College and a key project that has given a major boost to our medical infrastructure."

Assam Chief Minister had confirmed earlier that with the new medical college in Lakhimpur, the number of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery) seats in Assam has gone up to 1,100.

Other seven government medical colleges in Assam are Assam Medical College, Jorhat Medical College, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Tezpur Medical College, Gauhati Medical College, Silchar Medical College, and Regional Dental College in Guwahati.

On February 6, Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital welcomed its first batch and the institute tweeted, "We are having our first batch of LMCH today . We have waited and worked hard as far as possible under the active guidance of HON. @himantabiswa @keshab_mahanta @PradanBaruah @manabdeka @NMC_IND"

On Monday, the institute has tweeted, "Welcoming the first batch of MBBS Students to LMCH -14/2/22 @drbgos. Regards to @manabdeka @PradanBaruah @keshab_mahanta @himantabiswa @LakhimpurDist @NhmLakhimpur"
