Amid the ongoing flood situation in Assam, the state government has decided to prepone the summer vacation for all elementary, and secondary. senior secondary and higher secondary schools. The government took the decision amid the rising water levels of the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers leading to flood situation in the state.

Now, the schools in Assam will observe summer vacation from June 25 to July 25, instead of July 1 to July 31. "Secondary Education Department, Government of Assam reschedules the summer vacation in all elementary, secondary, senior secondary and higher secondary schools from 25th June 2022 to 25th July 2022," as per the NDTV report.

"Many schools in the state are being designated as relief camps, sheltering flood victims and a large number of them have been affected and damaged in the flood," the Assam government said in official order.

“To compensate the same, the Government in the Secondary Education Department has decided to reschedule the Summer Vacation in all Elementary, Secondary, Senior Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools from 25-06-2022 to 25-07-2022, instead of 01-07-2022 to 31-07-2022,” it said.

The flood has affected more than 5.5 million people in Assam including 1.25 million in Barpeta alone, followed by Dhubri (594,708), Darrang (547,421), Nagaon (457,381), and Kamrup (400,214), making them the five worst-affected districts. The flood situation in Assam remained bad on Wednesday as 12 more people died in the last 24 hours. With these deaths, the toll in this year's Assam flood and landslides rose to 100.

A total of 845 relief camps and 1,025 relief distribution centres have been set up by the district administrations in the affected districts where over 2.71 lakh people are taking shelter.
