Bangalore University releases BCom result, students score 72/70

For the theory paper, travel agency and tour operator organisation, 70 was the maximum mark for the written exam and 30 for the internal one. Many have been awarded with more than 72 marks.

Bangalore University has released the results for Bachelor of Commerce vocational students. However, the result shocked many students seeing their provisional exam marksheet as they scored 102 marks out of 100. BCom students had appeared for the semester exams in April and May 2021. 

For the theory paper, travel agency and tour operator organisation, 70 was the maximum mark for the written exam and 30 for the internal one. Many have been awarded with more than 72 marks. One of the student of a private college said, "I was really surprised to see my result. In one subject, I got 102 out of 100 marks. I don't understand why the university hadn't checked before announcing the results. My marks in the other subjects are not so good, but many are awarded full marks. This needs to be rectified."
Another student from a private college was awarded eight marks in corporate accounting, six in financial management, three in quantitative analysis and businesses decision and 72 in travel Agency and tour operator organization out of 70.

Speaking on the issue, JT Devaraj, registrar (evaluation), Bangalore University, "The issue occurred because students did not read the instructions given in the question paper. There were two types of students taking the exam - regular and those who were attempting it as a one-time measure. Regular students following the CBCS (choice-based credit system) scheme had to answer only sections A, B and C and their exam was out of 70 marks. For others, it was 100 marks and they were supposed to answer sections A, B, C, D and E. Many regular students did not read the instructions and wrote all the sections. In digital evaluation, all the answered questions were checked and the students were awarded marks. So, some regular students who attempted all questions got more than the maximum marks."
"Now, it is a Herculean task for us to go back and check each student's paper to understand whether they were to write the exam for 70 or 100 marks. We will get it all corrected. We checked with the Board of Examination chairperson on why it was the same question paper for both categories. We're told that it was because the syllabus hadn't changed," he added.
