Assam HSLC Results 2020: Govt to shut 17 schools where no student passed SEBA 10th Board Exams

The Assam government decided to shut 17 schools. Aa a total of 140 students appeared from these schools for the Assam 10th board exams with none clearing it.

Assam HSLC Results 2020: The Assam government decided to shut 17 state-run schools from which not even a single student passed this year’s Assam HSLC Board Exam 2020, said authorities. Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) declared SEBA Assam HSLC Results 2020 on June 6, 2020. Out of the total, 3.5 lakh students who appeared for the Assam HSLC exams, around 65 per cent passed the 10th board exam.

According to the media reports, the Assam government decided to shut 17 schools. A total of 140 students appeared for the Assam 10th board exams with none clearing it. The details states that five of the schools are located in Dima Hasao district, four in Jorhat, three in Karbi Anglong, two in Cachar, and one each in Kamrup (rural), Nagaon and Dhubri.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 7 said that these 17 schools would be shut down. The minister stated, “Teachers will be transferred across Assam within the next 72 hours. Students will have the opportunity to enroll themselves in the nearby school.”

While talking to a reputed source, two senior officials revealed that the process of listing out how many teachers and students are there in these 17 schools is underway. The officials added that the government will soon pass a formal order regarding the amalgamation of these schools with others. “The process has been initiated. The formal order will be out soon,” one of the officials said.

Reports suggest that overall 64.80% students passed in HSLC Result 2020 announced recently. The Assam HSLC Result 2020 pass percentage marks showed a significant improvement from last year when the success ratio was registered at 60.23. According to the 10th board results stats released by Assam Board, Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita from Darrang topped the exam with 595 marks i.e. 99.16 per cent. 

On June 7, the state government also that admission to various to universities, colleges and higher secondary schools will be free during the current academic year to ensure there is no additional burden on parents already affected by the coronavirus lockdown. The minister further added that there will be no hidden costs.

Mr Sarma said, “We are taking this step because due to the COVID pandemic, many parents have been rendered financially constrained. It is our duty to support them.”
