CBSE is trending online for all the wrong reasons. A host of students and parents are demanding cancellation of the compartment exam scheduled for September, due to the pandemic.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently released various official notices regarding then conduct of improvement exams, compartment exams and closure of the re-evaluation application process for CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th students. However, the Board is trending online for all the wrong reasons. A host of students and parents are demanding cancellation of the compartment exam scheduled for September, due to the pandemic. Many CBSE 12th students are also upset about the “early” closure of the online window for applying to get a photocopy of CBSE 12th Exam 2020 answer sheets.
On July 14, CBSE released the detailed schedule where it was clearly mentioned that Class 12 students can apply for verification of marks between July 17-21, followed by an application for a photocopy of answer sheets between August 1 and August 2. One of the many students said that August 1 was Eid and the next day was Sunday, due to which students missed out, as cyber cafes were closed. Many students appealed CBSE and Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Twitter for opening the application window again. A parent @rajeev2lr tweeted that he was unable to apply for his daughter's CBSE 12th re-evaluation due to internet problems, and since it was a public holiday and then a Sunday, he was unable to take help from cyber cafes either. Another user @Pritich75538474 claimed some students didn’t get their details about verification of marks even by August 1. "How can they proceed for the next step if their first step is incomplete," the user tweeted.
Another user @Shailendra_Akh tweeted that even on August 2, the last date for the application, he was unable to apply. "Site says last date is over. When August 2 is today and not passed (sic)," he wrote. CBSE had mentioned in its official schedule that the link would close by 5pm on August 2. It was not clear if the user had applied after that cut-off time.
Apart from this, hashtags like #CBSEkillingstudents and #CBSEcancelExamsSaveStudents were going viral on social media. The hashtags are in protest against CBSE proposing to hold compartment exams - for those who failed to clear their boards - in September. The Board declared the CBSE 12th Results 2020 on July 13 and CBSE 10th Results 2020 on July 15. Students who got “compartment” written on their marksheet are required to appear for the exam. The Board clearly mentioned that it not cancel the compartment exams. CBSE, in an official note, said cancelling the exam would "adversely affect" a large number of students.
