The CBSE’s surprise inspections, carried out in September 2024, revealed significant deficiencies in several schools located in Delhi and Rajasthan. Following the inspections, the CBSE issued show-cause notices to 27 schools in these regions, giving them 30 days to respond. After reviewing their replies, the board took decisive action.

CBSE Board Exam 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a crucial order permitting Class 10 and Class 12 students from recently disaffiliated schools to appear for their board exams for the 2024-25 academic session from the same school. This decision comes after a series of surprise inspections conducted across Delhi and Rajasthan, which led to the disaffiliation of 21 schools and the downgrading of 6 others in September 2024.

CBSE Inspections and Disaffiliations

The CBSE’s surprise inspections, carried out in September 2024, revealed significant deficiencies in several schools located in Delhi and Rajasthan. Following the inspections, the CBSE issued show-cause notices to 27 schools in these regions, giving them 30 days to respond. After reviewing their replies, the board took decisive action:

- 21 schools were disaffiliated, mostly in Delhi, for serious violations such as:

  - Large numbers of dummy and non-attending students in higher secondary classes.

  - Non-maintenance of critical records, including admission forms, attendance registers, service books, and leave records.

  - Failure to meet the teacher-pupil ratio as mandated by CBSE norms.

- Additionally, 6 schools were downgraded from senior secondary to secondary level due to similar issues.

CBSE’s Provision for Affected Students

Despite the disaffiliation and downgrading of these schools, CBSE has made provisions for Class 10 and Class 12 students to sit for the 2024-25 board exams from their current school. This decision aims to prevent disruption to students' education and ensure that they can continue their studies with minimal hindrance.

- Class 10 and Class 12 students from the disaffiliated schools will be allowed to appear for their exams in the same institutions.

- Class 9 and Class 11 students, however, will be transferred to nearby CBSE-affiliated schools by the respective regional CBSE offices.

In addition, the disaffiliated schools have been instructed not to take any new admissions or promote students to Class 9 or Class 11 for the ongoing academic year.

What’s Next for Disaffiliated Schools?

Disaffiliated schools will have the opportunity to apply for restoration of their affiliation, but only after they address the issues pointed out by CBSE during the inspections. The timeline for restoration of affiliation is as follows:

- Secondary Level (Class 10): Schools will be allowed to apply for restoration after one academic year, starting from the 2026-27 session, provided they have addressed the deficiencies.

- Senior Secondary Level (Class 12): Restoration to the senior secondary level will only be possible after two years of improvement at the secondary level, and only if CBSE grants approval.

This decision comes as part of the CBSE’s ongoing effort to ensure that affiliated schools meet the required standards of quality education and maintain transparency in their operations.

The recent disaffiliations highlight CBSE's commitment to maintaining high standards in education and ensuring that all affiliated schools provide students with an environment conducive to learning. The board’s proactive approach aims to safeguard the interests of students while holding institutions accountable for non-compliance with its regulations.
