CBSE Results 2020: How would CBSE score students if the pending 10th, 12th exams get cancelled?
Answering about the release of CBSE 10th Results 2020 and CBSE 12th Results 2020 without conducting pending exams is not simple. Teachers and experts point out that CBSE either release the CBSE Results 2020 purely based on internal assessments or would decide to mark the students for the pending examination based on marks obtained in the other four subjects, taking the subject for which the students scored the maximum marks as the reference point. The experts also suggest that CBSE might just take a completely different method to release CBSE 10th Results 2020 and CBSE 12th Results 2020. The concern, however, is for the students whose more than one paper is due.
The biggest concern is for the students from North East Delhi, who have missed more than two papers due to the riots in the area. Most of the papers that are missed are main or core subjects including English and Hindi for Class 10 and even Class 12. Also, main subjects for Class 12 – Biology, Physics, Chemistry and even Accountancy are pending for a few students from the area.
For these students, choosing a single policy may not be a solution. Furthermore, it is important to point out that some of the scoring subjects like Business Studies and Computers were left for the Class 12 students, which if graded purely internally, may actually hamper the students’ prospects in the university admissions, as they may not be able to compete with the state board students.

While the CBSE is receiving a lot of criticism against its decision to conduct pending exams in July due to the prevailing pandemic situation. The decision to conduct or not to conduct the board examinations is not a simple one.
In order to make a decision, CBSE needs to analyse the number of students who have missed one, two or more exams and then accordingly find a way to release CBSE Results 2020 being ‘fair’ to all. Furthermore, if the board decides against cancelling, then there would be a bigger concern of how and when to conduct the papers.
Please note that the Supreme Court not ‘asked’ CBSE to cancel the pending exams but only to reconsider its decision. The board may even offer an alternative to the students like CISCE. The Board might ask the students to decide whether they want to sit for the exams or opt-out of it just like CISCE.

Here is a look at which all boards cancelled the pending board examinations and how they awarded the marks for the remaining papers.
How other board awarded marks after cancelling the pending papers?
Himachal Pradesh Board: HPBOSE, which decided to cancel a pending paper for Class 12 students already declared the HPBOSE 12th Results 2020. In order to release the results, the board decided to mark the student for the pending examination based on marks obtained in the other four subjects, taking the subject for which the students scored the maximum marks as the reference point. This was for the theory marks. The internal marks, as awarded by schools, were taken as it. For Example: If a student scored a maximum 70% then s/he would be awarded 70% (or a proportion thereof) in the theory paper and the internal marks as it is.
Telangana Board: TS Board of School Education, TSBSE is one of the few boards that decided to cancel the board examination altogether. The board exams of Class 10 are cancelled. As for the 12th Board, the pending exams were conducted and results are now declared. TS SSC Results 2020 are being calculated based purely on the internal assessment.
For the internal assessment, the board asked the schools to provide the performance of the student overall the formative assessment tests conducted over the academic year 2019-20. Taking these internal marks out of 20 as the base, the board would then scale them to 100 marks and release the results for the students.
Apart from these two board, Tamil Nadu also cancelled the pending TN 10 Board Exams 2020 and also a paper for Class 11. However, the Board is yet to share the marking scheme. As for the national level board, The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) decided to conduct exams but gave students an option to opt-out. In case the students decide not to sit for the exams, the board would release their results based on their performance in pre-boards and internal evaluation. However, the board is yet to present the grading criteria.
