The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice to all its affiliated schools, urging them to create functional websites and upload critical details about their teachers and other required documents for public disclosure.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice to all its affiliated schools, urging them to create functional websites and upload critical details about their teachers and other required documents for public disclosure. This directive comes after several schools failed to comply with previous instructions to make these disclosures.

CBSE Highlights the Issue of Non-compliance

In its official notice, the CBSE emphasized that many affiliated schools still lack a functional website, despite repeated directions over the past years. The board noted that some schools that do have websites have either not uploaded the required teacher information and other documents or have done so only partially. In certain cases, the uploaded links are inactive or difficult to access, making it hard for parents and stakeholders to view necessary details about the institutions.

Mandatory Public Disclosure Requirements

According to the CBSE notice, schools are required to disclose specific information as part of the Mandatory Public Disclosure initiative. This includes uploading:

  • Details of teachers, including their qualifications.
  • Other prescribed documents and information as mandated by the board.

The information must be readily accessible on the school website, ensuring transparency and accountability. However, the board observed that many institutions have not met these standards.

Problems Identified with School Websites

CBSE officials pointed out that while some schools have websites, the required information is either missing or not easily accessible. In some instances, although the documents have been uploaded, they are not prominently displayed on the homepage or have been hidden behind unclear navigation links.

Moreover, the lack of functionality in some websites has left parents and other stakeholders unable to access important information, despite the initial availability of a digital platform.

Final Opportunity for Compliance

The CBSE has provided a final 30-day window for schools that have yet to comply with the website and document disclosure requirements. Schools failing to meet these criteria within the given timeline risk facing action from the board. The CBSE has stressed that this deadline is non-negotiable and urges all institutions to ensure full compliance with the guidelines.

Importance of Transparency in Education

The CBSE's push for a functional website and proper document uploads is aimed at increasing transparency in school management. By ensuring that essential information like teacher qualifications and other critical documents are accessible to the public, the board aims to enhance trust and accountability within educational institutions. The move is also expected to provide parents with a clearer understanding of the institutions they are entrusting their children to.

This initiative is part of the broader push for digital transformation within the education sector. By encouraging schools to develop and maintain functional websites, CBSE is paving the way for more modern, accessible, and accountable educational practices in India. The move aligns with the increasing reliance on technology in both academic administration and student learning.
