This initiative aims to tackle issues of "inconsistency and potential inflation of marks" in internal assessments, as outlined in the minutes of the board’s governing body meeting held in June.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to collaborate with the British Council to develop a comprehensive framework for internal assessments in science subjects for Classes 6 through 12. This initiative aims to tackle issues of "inconsistency and potential inflation of marks" in internal assessments, as outlined in the minutes of the board’s governing body meeting held in June.

Enhancing Assessment Fairness

The proposed framework will align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) and the Holistic Progress Cards, which are part of the government's efforts to update school report cards. This development is intended to address disparities in educational outcomes and improve student engagement by ensuring more consistent and transparent internal assessment practices.

Monitoring Board Exams with CCTV

In an effort to mitigate disturbances and maintain exam integrity, CBSE is considering the use of CCTV recordings in classrooms where board exams are conducted. The proposal, highlighted in the governing body meeting minutes, reflects concerns about potential disruptions and the need for real-time monitoring to prevent any interference.

Implementation Details

Under the proposal, schools will be directed to install CCTV cameras in exam classrooms, with partial costs covered by CBSE. A data bank will be established at CBSE headquarters to collect and review recordings from exam centers via a web link. This system is planned to be implemented starting with the 2025 exam cycle.

Pilot Project and Future Expansion

As part of the rollout, a pilot project will involve at least 30% of exam centers in a region, with plans to extend the initiative to all centers based on the pilot’s success. A committee will be formed to assess the infrastructure requirements, implementation process, IT system efficacy, and data management.

Capacity-Building Workshops

To support the new framework and ensure its effectiveness, CBSE will conduct capacity-building workshops for school leaders and coordinators. These workshops will focus on fostering consistency, transparency, and fairness in internal assessments, addressing concerns about inequities in educational outcomes and enhancing student engagement.
