According to the reports, PSEB has become the fifth major education board to postpone the examinations in the last two days. Before PSEB, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (RBSE), and Board of Secondary Education, Madhya Pradesh (MPBSE) postponed the class 10 and class 12 examinations.
The reports regarding the postponement of the board examinations started flooding in after the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) ordered the state boards to postpone exams in order to curb the chances of novel coronavirus spread.
The Punjab Board exams for Class 12 commenced on March 3 with General Punjabi, and History and Culture of Punjab paper and were scheduled to conclude on April 3. Now, the State Board has postponed the scheduled examinations. According to the reports, the Board will release fresh dates for the postponed examination after analyzing the prevailing emergency condition due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
The Punjab government has been taking many precautionary steps to curb the spread of the pandemic. In order to stop the rapid spread of the disease, the government has stopped all the public transports, closed the wedding halls, hotels, and restaurants. However, the home delivery services and take away facilities are still functional in the state. The gathering limit has set i.e. up to 20 people only.
So far the total positive coronavirus cases in India have risen to 190. The disease has claimed four deaths in Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab (one each).
