Delhi DoE directs NIOS to ensure Quality Education and Student Support

Attendance Monitoring and Timely Action Against Absenteeism

The circular also stressed the importance of student attendance and regular participation in school activities. It stated that morning assemblies should be held, and that attendance should be regularly monitored by NIOS centres. In cases of repeated absenteeism, timely action should be taken, including notifying parents about the absence and ensuring that students are encouraged to attend school regularly.

The DoE’s directive ensures that student attendance is closely tracked and that parents are made aware of persistent absenteeism, thus promoting accountability and encouraging parents to engage with the educational progress of their children.

Promoting Academic Excellence and Student Achievement

To motivate students and encourage academic achievement, NIOS centres have been instructed to display student progress reports on notice boards, allowing students to celebrate their successes. The DoE also encouraged the recognition of perfect attendance and academic excellence through awards and certificates, further incentivizing students to excel in their studies.

The initiative aims to foster a competitive yet supportive academic environment, where students are encouraged to perform to the best of their abilities and are recognized for their hard work.

Teacher Accountability and Performance Improvement

In an effort to ensure that students receive the best possible education, the circular emphasized the need for teacher accountability. It directed that if a teacher’s performance does not lead to improved student results, the teacher’s services should be terminated. The DoE instructed that a Show Cause Notice (SCN) be issued to any teacher whose performance remains unsatisfactory, asking why their services should not be discontinued.

The move aims to ensure that only qualified and committed educators remain in the system, contributing to the overall quality of education at NIOS centres.

Infrastructure and Class Scheduling Requirements

The circular also mandated that NIOS study centres maintain adequate infrastructure and clean facilities to create an optimal learning environment. Additionally, the heads of these centres were directed to ensure that class schedules are followed on time, and that students are not deprived of necessary lessons.

In cases where guest teachers are unavailable, the circular instructed that regular school faculty be deployed to teach NIOS students for at least three periods a week. This ensures that NIOS students continue to receive consistent and high-quality instruction even in the absence of dedicated guest faculty.

Current NIOS Enrollment and Operational Overview

According to the DoE, the NIOS Project Branch currently operates 75 study centres across Delhi, serving 7,794 students who are enrolled for the 2024-25 academic session. These centres are spread across the city, offering an alternative educational option for students who may not be able to attend regular schools due to various reasons.

The DoE’s directives are aimed at improving the overall educational experience for these students, ensuring that they receive the necessary support, infrastructure, and guidance to succeed academically.
