With the vision to transform MCD schools in the next five years like the Delhi government schools, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that MCD teachers will be sent to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad for training.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that his education department will train teachers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) schools by sending them to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad for training.
The minister further said that their vision is to transform the MCD schools in the next five years like the Delhi government schools. Inaugurating Sarvodaya Co-ed Vidyalaya at Libaspur village in northwest Delhi amid cheers from residents and students, Kejriwal also spoke about the problem of unemployment and said the government was working on a constructive programme to make youngsters job-providers, not job-seekers.
The school building consists of three blocks, 50 classrooms, eight labs, two libraries and a lift. It also has a fully airconditioned multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 200. It will start functioning from the current academic session and can admit 2,000 students from classes Nursery to XII. "Until a few years ago, none of us had thought that a government school could be so magnificent. Forget government schools, none of us had thought that even a private school in Delhi would be so good. The school that has been built in your area is better than any other government or private school in all of Delhi, and perhaps even the country," the CM said.
With good schools, the government has been able to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, he claimed. "Earlier most of the government schools used to function from tents, did not even have a proper roof. There were no fans, desks or even toilets. The children barely came for an hour, then would run away. There was no proper education in these schools. I would even say the quality of all government schools in Delhi is better than at least 80% of the private schools in the city."
