Delhi government directed all private schools situated in the national capital to ensure that online classes and learning materials are provided to the students belonging to EWS category. The government’s notice came in the midst of the rising complains and concerns from students and parents belonging to Disadvantaged Group (DG), that they are not allowed to be a part of the online classes.

Academic institutions are conducting online classes and sharing study material via various online platforms. However, students with no access to technology are left out in the process. To address these concerns, the Delhi Government decided to direct private schools to ensure that online classes and digital learning materials are made available to all the students easily. The official notice released by the state government reads, “All the Private Unaided Recognized Schools providing online classes/learning material to the students are hereby directed to ensure that online classes/ learning material is also provided to the students admitted under EWS/DG/CWSN category. Meanwhile, the Delhi government also directed the private school not to charge quarterly fees from parents amid the COVID-19 lockdown. Schools are also asked to charge only monthly tuition fees that must not include any transportation fees. Similarly, the government directed private schools to not deny any student online classes or digital learning materials, irrespective of their ability to pay fees.

During a meeting with the Minister of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), the Delhi government urged to cancel the CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th board examinations due to the prevailing emergency conditions. Delhi Deputy CM/Education minister of the national capital also suggested evaluating students’ marks based on internal assessment.
