The controversy centers on reports that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has omitted the Preamble from several Class 3 and 6 textbooks issued this year.

In response to recent allegations by opposition party leaders, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has strongly denied claims that the Preamble of the Indian Constitution has been removed from NCERT textbooks.

The controversy centers on reports that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has omitted the Preamble from several Class 3 and 6 textbooks issued this year. Specifically, for Class 6, while the Preamble appears in the Science book, Curiosity, and the Hindi book, Malhar, it is absent from the Social Science book, Exploring Society: India and Beyond. The latter book does include references to fundamental rights and fundamental duties.

Pradhan emphasized that, under the National Education Policy (NEP), NCERT has made significant efforts to incorporate various aspects of the Indian Constitution, including the Preamble, Fundamental Duties, Fundamental Rights, and the National Anthem, into age-appropriate textbooks. He accused the opposition of using education as a political weapon and spreading misinformation to undermine the current educational reforms.

The Minister’s statement aims to clarify the government's stance and address concerns raised by the opposition regarding the content of educational materials provided to students.
