Financial assistance, totalling to Rs 9000 crores, will be provided to States/UTs for the physical upgradation of all 613 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs).

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, announced a series of initiatives aimed at revamping school and teacher education across the country. These initiatives, totaling Rs 9000 crores in financial assistance, are poised to elevate the quality and inclusivity of education in India.

The cornerstone of these initiatives is the launch of the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM) and National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST), which are aligned with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NPST aims to enhance the personal and professional development of teachers, ensuring that they possess the necessary competencies to provide high-quality education to students at all levels. The NPST Guiding Document will be translated into multiple languages, including Braille and audiobooks, to ensure widespread accessibility.

Another significant endeavor is the introduction of 52 Primers in Indian languages, a move designed to facilitate early childhood education in mother tongue or local languages. This initiative holds the potential to ignite a transformative journey for young learners, fostering deeper understanding, cultural rootedness, and academic success.

Furthermore, Pradhan unveiled plans for the physical upgradation of all 613 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) across the country, with a focus on developing them into centers of excellence. This ambitious project, supported by substantial financial assistance, aims to enhance infrastructural facilities and elevate the standard of teacher education.

In his address, Pradhan emphasized the importance of these initiatives in driving the effective implementation of NEP 2020 at the grassroots level. He underscored the transformative power of learning in mother tongue and expressed confidence that these initiatives would usher in a new era of educational excellence and inclusivity in India.
