The Maharashtra State Board issued a circular to clear any doubts regarding lowering of passing marks for Mathematics and Science in the upcoming Mah SSC Board Exams 2025. Read further for details.
Maharashtra SSC Exam 2025: In a recent development, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has clarified that there will be no change in the passing marks for Mathematics and Science in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC), i.e. Mah SSC Board Exams 2025 starting February 21, 2025. The clarification comes after confusion arose due to a proposal in the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) – School Education (SE), which suggested lowering the passing marks for these subjects from 35 to 20.
The Maharashtra State Board issued a circular to clear any doubts, confirming that the MSBSHSE 10th SSC 2025 exams will follow the existing Maharashtra Board Class 10 passing marks criteria 2025. The circular, issued by Devidas Kulal, the Secretary of the Maharashtra State Board, stated, “There is no change in passing marks of Mathematics and Science for Class 10 exam to be conducted in February/March 2025. In future, when the changes are to be implemented, it will be communicated separately to students, parents, teachers, and schools."
State Curriculum Framework (SCF) Proposes Lowering Mah SSC Passing Marks
The controversy stemmed from the SCF-SE, which proposed lowering the passing marks for Mathematics and Science in Maharashtra Board Class 10 from 35 to 20 marks. This proposal, part of the final SCF released last month, aimed at reducing the stress associated with these subjects, which many students find challenging. The proposal also outlined that students passing with these lower marks would have a remark on their certificates, preventing them from pursuing higher education courses that require a background in mathematics or science. However, students wishing to pursue other career paths will not face restrictions.
While the proposal was met with positive responses from parents and teachers, who cited the reduction in stress as a positive step, it led to confusion about the passing marks for the upcoming MSBSHSE SSC exam 2025, prompting the State Board to issue the clarification.
Positive Reception for Lower Passing Marks Proposal
The SCF proposal received favorable feedback from many quarters, particularly from educators and parents. Teachers highlighted that math anxiety has been a serious concern among students, contributing to exam stress. The proposal to lower the passing marks for Mathematics and Science was seen as a way to alleviate some of this stress, especially for students who struggle with these subjects but are not necessarily pursuing careers that require deep expertise in mathematics or science.
Maharashtra State Board Exam Dates 2025
This year, Maharashtra Board Exam 2025 for both the SSC and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams will begin earlier than usual. The Mah HSC exams 2025 will start on February 11, 2025, and continue until March 18, 2025. The Maharashtra SSC exams 2025, which were traditionally scheduled for the first week of March, will commence on February 21, 2025, and end on March 17, 2025. The Maharashtra State Board believes that the earlier start to the exams will ensure that the next academic year begins on time and allow for smoother admissions to higher education courses.
Clarification Reassures Maharashtra Board SSC 2025 Aspirants
With the passing marks issue now clarified, SSC aspirants for 2025 can focus on their preparations without concerns over changes to the examination criteria. The Maharashtra State Board’s proactive clarification ensures that students and educators can proceed with their plans for the upcoming exams.
This clarification also puts to rest any lingering doubts regarding the Mah 10th passing marks for Science and Mathematics in the upcoming SSC Maharashtra Board exam 2025. However, the changes proposed in the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) for future exams will continue to be monitored, with updates being communicated as and when implemented.
