The Malabar Group, a leading Indian business conglomerate and parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, announced its National Scholarship Programme for 2024 at an event held at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in BKC, Mumbai. This initiative highlights the Group's commitment to promoting girls' education and social welfare. The announcement was inaugurated by Piyush Goyal, Honourable Minister of Commerce & Industry.
A Commitment of INR 16 Crore to Education
This year, the scholarship programme has allocated INR16 crore to support the education of over 21,000 girl students across India. MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “Our scholarship programme is a direct reflection of Malabar Group’s deep-rooted belief that education unlocks opportunities and transforms lives.”
A Legacy of Social Responsibility
Since its inception in 2007, the Malabar National Scholarship Programme has become a flagship initiative under the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. To date, the programme has invested over INR60 crore, benefitting more than 95,000 girl students. Malabar Group allocates 5% of its profits to various CSR initiatives, focusing on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and poverty alleviation.
Additional Initiatives: Hunger Relief and Support for Women
In addition to the scholarship programme, Malabar Group's Hunger-Free World Project aims to provide nutritious meals to the underprivileged across India. Currently, 50,000 food packets are distributed daily in 80 cities, along with 10,000 packets for school students in Zambia. The Group is working to expand this initiative to serve 100,000 people daily.
Furthermore, the newly launched Grandma Home project offers free accommodation for destitute women, currently operational in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, with plans to expand to major cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai.
Broad Spectrum of CSR Activities
The Malabar Group’s CSR activities also include medical aid for underprivileged communities, housing support, and financial assistance for the marriages of women in need. To date, the Group has invested over INR263 crore in various social responsibility projects, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development.
