The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has officially launched the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme in a pilot phase, aimed at providing valuable internship opportunities to address youth unemployment across the country. Portal Open for Partner Companies
Currently, the registration portal is accessible exclusively for partner companies to sign up for the internship scheme. Youth interested in applying will need to wait until companies are registered. Candidates who meet a company’s eligibility criteria can then apply online via the official portal: pminternship.mca.gov.in.
Eligibility Criteria for Interns
To qualify for the internship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Completion of higher secondary education or high school, along with certifications from an ITI, a diploma from a Polytechnic Institute, or degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, or BPharma.
- Age: Candidates should be between 21 and 24 years old as of the application deadline.
- Employment Status: Applicants must be Indian nationals and should not be engaged in a full-time job or enrolled in a full-time educational program. Those studying in online or distance learning courses are eligible to apply.
Financial Support for Interns
Interns under the scheme will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for a full 12-month internship. This amount includes:
- Company Contribution: INR 500 from the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding.
- Government Contribution: INR 4,500 from the government.
Additionally, interns will receive a one-time financial support of Rs 6,000 to cover incidental expenses. The scheme also offers insurance coverage through initiatives like PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, with the government paying the premiums for the interns.
Application Process
Applying for the PM Internship Scheme involves a few simple steps:
- Visit the Official Website: Navigate to pminternship.mca.gov.in.
- Registration: On the homepage, scroll down to find the registration option and click on it.
- Fill in Details: Complete the registration form with the necessary information and documents, then submit.
Upon registration, a resume will be automatically generated for the candidate, allowing them to apply for at least five internship opportunities based on their preferences.
Participating Companies
Companies involved in the PM Internship Scheme have been selected based on their CSR expenditure over the past three years. More businesses, banks, and financial institutions may join the initiative pending approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). Participation is entirely voluntary, and companies unable to provide internships directly may collaborate with vendors, clients, or partners within their value chains to create opportunities for interns.
The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme represents a significant step towards enhancing employability among the nation’s youth and fostering a skilled workforce equipped for future challenges.
