Odisha Schools Closing Updates: With Cyclonic Storm Dana expected to hit the Odisha coast between October 24 and 25, 2024, the state government has ordered the closure of schools in 14 districts likely to be affected by heavy rain and strong winds. The districts where schools will remain closed are Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Cuttack.

In view of the situation, schools in the mentioned districts will remain closed from October 23 to 25, 2024, as a precautionary measure. The officials must take necessary action accordingly and keep this Department informed.

As per media updates, the official notice states, “As you are aware, lMD, Bhubaneswar has predicted that a well-marked low pressure area has been developed over east central Bay of Bengal at 1130 hours IST of today, the 21st October 2024 which is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by 22nd October morning and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October, 2024 over east central Bay of Bengal.”

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Forecasts Heavy Rain

The IMD has predicted that wind speeds along and off the Odisha-West Bengal coasts could reach 60 kmph from Wednesday, gradually increasing to 100-110 kmph, with gusts up to 120 kmph, from the night of October 24 until the morning of October 25. The weather agency has also warned fishermen in coastal areas to avoid venturing into the sea this week.
