As the air quality remains a major concern, authorities are urging residents and students to take preventive measures and stay indoors as much as possible. Gurugram School Closed up to Class 12 amid bad air quality. Classes to be held online.
Gurugram Schools Closed! In response to the deteriorating air quality, all government and private schools in Gurugram have suspended physical classes for students up to Class 12. The suspension will remain in effect until November 25, 2024, as the region continues to experience severe pollution levels.
Directive from Haryana's Directorate of Secondary Education
The decision comes following a directive issued by the Directorate of Secondary Education, Haryana. According to the official order, the suspension of physical classes applies to both urban and rural areas within the district. The order cited the hazardous Air Quality Index (AQI), which has consistently remained in the severe category across the Gurugram region, as the primary reason for the decision.
The official statement emphasized, "As the AQI levels in almost all Urban & Rural parts of district Gurugram are in a severe category, in the interest of the health and safety of children, it has been decided that in continuation of order no. 5483-86 dated 18.11.2024 of this office, all physical classes for students up to Class 12th will remain discontinued till 25.11.2024."
Online Classes to Continue
While physical classes have been suspended, online classes will continue as scheduled. Both government and private schools in Gurugram will proceed with their online academic sessions to ensure that students' education is not disrupted. The move aims to minimize the risk of exposure to harmful pollutants while still allowing students to progress in their studies.
Previous Measures in Noida and Greater Noida
This suspension comes after similar actions were taken in Noida and Greater Noida, where physical classes were also suspended until November 25, 2024. The district administration in both areas had initially ordered the closure of schools up to Class 5 due to the hazardous air quality, and now the suspension has been extended to include students up to Class 12.
Focus on Health and Safety
The decision to suspend physical classes has been made with the well-being of students in mind. The district administration has reiterated that the health and safety of children is a priority. The Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram echoed these sentiments, stating, "This decision prioritizes the health and safety of children as per guidelines from the Directorate of Secondary Education, Haryana. Stay safe and take necessary precautions!"
As the air quality remains a major concern, authorities are urging residents and students to take preventive measures and stay indoors as much as possible.
