Schools in Puducherry will remain closed between March 16 and March 26, 2023, in view of the rise in H3N2 virus, education minister A Namassivayam announced. The government of the Union territory has decided to close the schools for the next 10 days as precautionary to prevent further spread of the H3N2 influenza.

Puducherry Schools Closed: The government of Puducherry has announced its decision to shut schools amid the outbreak of the H3N2 virus. Schools in Puducherry will remain closed between March 16 and March 26, 2023, in view of the rise in H3N2 virus, education minister A Namassivayam announced. The government of the Union territory has decided to close the schools for the next 10 days as precautionary to prevent further spread of the H3N2 influenza.

What is H3N2 virus?

India is recording a rapid increase of H3N2 virus cases. As per the data shared by Union Health Ministry, India has reported 451 cases of the H3N2 virus between January 2 and March 5. The first death from the H3N2 influenza virus was reported in Karnataka's Hassan district where an 82-year-old man died due to the H3N2 virus. So far, around 7 deaths are reported due to the virus.

What are the symptoms of H3N2 virus infection?

H3N2 virus cause respiratory problems for many people. In the last few days, there has been an outbreak of a subtype of Influenza A virus. H3N2 virus spread is increasing rapidly in India. Puducherry reported around 79 cases of influenza, belonging to the viral H3N2 subtype until March 11.
