SC dismisses plea demanding Board exams 2022 cancellation

The Supreme Court has dismissed the hope of many students who were wishing for an internal assessment. A petition was filed by Child's Rights activist, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai and the Students Union of Odisha seeking cancellation of board exams including CBSE, CISCE, NIOS and other state board exams.

However, the plea has been dismissed, paving the way for Term 2 Board Exams for CBSE, ICSE as well as State Board Exams 2022.

While dismissing the plea, Justice AM Khanwilkar called the plea ill advice and also said it gives ‘false hope’. "These petitions create false hopes, let authorities take a decision. You can challenge that order," Justice AM Khanwilkar noted. The plea was heard by the 3 judge bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar. 

Justice Khanwilkar also called out the petition as 'publicity' and has even warned the petitioners in as many words. "There’s news item everywhere. What kind of petitions are filed & publicity is being given? This has to stop. This has to stop. Don’t come up again or there will be exemplary costs. Let students & authorities do their job. You can’t PIL like this. Whoever has filed we’re saying for that petitioner," he said.

Students from many regions of the country filed a plea seeking the cancellation of offline board exams and alternative assessment criteria for student evaluation. The students were demanding cancellation of exams citing the loss of learning due to online classes. The filed plea also stated that the conduction of CBSE term 2 and other board exams 2022 amid the COVID-19 situation is a violation of the Right to Life.

As of now, many central and state boards have already released the date sheet for board exams 2022. CBSE term 2 exams 2022 is scheduled to begin from April 25 while CISCE will also commence board exams from the end of April this year. Maharashtra Board is all set to commence board exams from March 4.
