Schools CLOSED in Punjab amid extreme cold waves

The decision is taken due to extreme winter waves and cold weather conditions. Announcing the decision to close schools, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in an official post on X said that the step is taken in the larger interest of school-going children.

Punjab Schools Closed: The government of Punjab has announced the closure of schools amid harsh cold waves. The order regarding the closure of Punjab Schools for students up to Class 10 until January 14 was released on Sunday, i.e. January 7, 2024. The decision is taken due to extreme winter waves and cold weather conditions. Announcing the decision to close schools, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in an official post on X said that the step is taken in the larger interest of school-going children.

Punjab CM in his post said, “In view of the inclement weather conditions in the region, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered that all the government, government-aided and private schools in the state up to Class 10 will remain closed from January 8-14.”

Meanwhile, Delhi government extended winter vacation in schools for students from Nursery to Class 5 due to the prevailing severe cold weather conditions.

"Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5," Education Minister Atishi Marlena said on X.

Punjab continued to face cold weather conditions on Sunday, with morning fog causing reduced visibility in various areas. According to the weather department, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius.

Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot, and Gurdaspur also experienced chilly nights, registering minimum temperatures ranging from 6 to 7 degrees Celsius.
