Schools in Rajasthan's Khairthal-Tijara shift online. This decision follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which instructed all states in the Delhi-NCR region to assess the feasibility of continuing physical classes for students up to class 12 amid the ongoing pollution crisis.
Rajasthan Air Pollution: In response to the alarming rise in pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, the administration of Khairthal-Tijara district in Rajasthan has announced that all schools in the district will conduct online classes for students in classes 1 to 5 for the next four days, starting Wednesday. This decision follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which instructed all states in the Delhi-NCR region to assess the feasibility of continuing physical classes for students up to class 12 amid the ongoing pollution crisis.
District Administration Issues Official Order
The order was issued on Tuesday by District Collector Kishore Kumar, who directed that all government and private schools in the Khairthal-Tijara district suspend physical classes for students of classes 1 to 5 from November 20 to November 23. The suspension will continue until further notice, or until the situation improves, whichever is earlier.
As per the order, teachers will conduct online classes for the affected students during this period. However, it is important to note that the order only applies to students. Teachers are still required to report to their schools to carry out online classes.
Impact of High Pollution Levels in Delhi-NCR
The decision comes in the wake of severe air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region, which has led to significant health concerns, especially for young children. The district administration took this proactive step to protect the health of students, ensuring they are not exposed to the hazardous air quality during this period. Online classes will allow students to continue their education from the safety of their homes.
Khairthal-Tijara Falls Under NCR
Khairthal-Tijara, which was carved out from Alwar district in August 2023, is part of the National Capital Region (NCR). The decision to suspend physical classes aligns with the guidelines set by the Supreme Court, which asked authorities in the NCR region to consider student safety in light of the pollution levels.
This move by the district administration reflects a growing trend of schools across NCR shifting to online learning modes to mitigate the health risks posed by the toxic air quality.
A Temporary Measure for Student Safety
The administration has made it clear that this is a temporary measure aimed at safeguarding the well-being of children. The situation will be reassessed at the end of the four-day period, and the authorities will decide whether further action is necessary based on the prevailing air quality conditions.
In the meantime, schools are taking steps to ensure that the online learning experience is as effective as possible for students in classes 1 to 5. Teachers are expected to engage students with regular lessons and assignments through virtual platforms.
The decision has been met with support from parents and local health experts, who agree that the health and safety of students should remain the top priority in the face of such severe pollution levels.
