School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, who also serves as the guardian minister for Mumbai city, announced the holiday as heavy rains continue to impact the region.

In light of the red alert issued for heavy rainfall, all schools and colleges in Mumbai and its suburbs will remain closed today, i.e. September 26, 2024. School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, who also serves as the guardian minister for Mumbai city, announced the holiday as heavy rains continue to impact the region.

Precautionary Measure Amid Weather Warnings

A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official confirmed that the decision to close educational institutions was made to ensure the safety of students. The India Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall expected to persist until 8:30 AM on Thursday. "All schools and colleges under BMC's jurisdiction will remain closed, considering the safety of the students," stated the BMC.

Traffic Disruptions and Inundation

The ongoing heavy rains have been lashing Mumbai since Wednesday afternoon, resulting in significant disruptions. Low-lying areas have become inundated, and local train services have been halted between Kurla and Thane stations, stranding passengers. Traffic is crawling on major roads, prompting the civic body to advise citizens to only venture outside if absolutely necessary.

In light of the severe weather conditions, the BMC urged commuters to stay updated on weather reports and plan their travel accordingly. As the city braces for continued rainfall, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
