Tamil Nadu Schools Closed! Heavy rainfall across various parts of Tamil Nadu has led to school closures in multiple districts. On Tuesday, November 19, district authorities in Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, and Karaikal declared holidays for schools due to the persistent downpours. In Karaikal, all schools and colleges were closed, while in Thoothukudi, only schools were shut, with colleges continuing operations as usual. In Thanjavur, the district administration allowed individual school heads to decide on school closures based on local weather conditions.

Heavy Rain Alert for Delta and Southern Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a heavy rain alert for several districts, including both the Delta and Southern regions of Tamil Nadu. The warning is in effect from 7 am to 10 am on Tuesday, with predictions of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

The districts in the Delta region under alert include: 

- Tiruvarur 

- Thanjavur 

- Mayiladuthurai 

- Nagapattinam 

- Pudukkottai 

The Southern districts on alert are: 

- Sivaganga 

- Ramanathapuram 

- Thoothukudi 

- Tirunelveli 

- Kanyakumari 

Authorities, including District Collectors B Priyanka Pankajam (Nagapattinam), P Akash (Thoothukudi), and T Manikandan (Karaikal), have urged residents to take necessary precautions during the ongoing heavy rains.

Rain Forecast and Northeast Monsoon Impact

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for the coming days, forecasting moderate rainfall across Tamil Nadu for the next five days. The northeast monsoon is expected to intensify, with atmospheric circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and surrounding regions. The RMC predicts widespread rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with isolated heavy rain likely in the Delta and southern districts. Light to moderate rain, along with thunder and lightning, is anticipated in many parts of the state.

Chennai Weather Update

In Chennai, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with intermittent light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. The city's temperature will range between 25°C and 32°C. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and take safety precautions during the ongoing rainy period.
