Tamil Nadu Schools Closed Today in 4 Districts Due To Heavy Rainfall

Tamil Nadu school holidays has been announced today in these four districts due to heavy rainfall. IMD has highlighted the likelihood of heavy rainfall in south Tamil Nadu. Get details here 

Tamil Nadu Public Holiday: Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi districts in Tamil Nadu have announced a holiday for all schools, colleges, private institutions, banks, and financial institutions today due to the expected heavy rainfall. Apart from these four distructs, Virudhunagar district has also declared a school holiday for today. 

As per the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations across Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur districts of Tamil Nadu today on December 18, 2023. The forecast also suggests heavy rainfall is expected in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram districts tomorrow as well on December 19. 

Since Sunday morning, the districts of Kovilpatti, Kalugumalai, Kayathar, Ettayapuram, Vilathikulam, Kadambur, Vembar, Surangudi have been receiving continuous rainfall. According to reports, the rivers and lakes around Kovilpatti are experiencing overflow caused by intense rainfall. To counter this, sandbags and JCB machines have been deployed as the rivers in Koosalipatti and Inam Maniyachi districts began overflowing due to the heavy downpour.

On Sunday and Monday, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams equipped with rescue gear are being dispatched to Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari in response to the prevailing weather conditions.
