West Bengal Board planning to hold Class 12 exams twice a year from 2023

WB HS Exams: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is planning to hold class 12 (Uccha Madhyamik) exams twice a year from 2023. As per an official from the West Bengal board, the decision will be taken in the council meeting on Friday, May 6 in the presence of the state education minister. "To keep parity with CBSE, ISC, and other boards, a committee was formed to revise the curriculum of the HS exam. The committee will meet on May 6, and a decision on two-semester exams in HS will be decided," the board official told the media.

West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has already conducted the WB Uccha Madhyamik exams. This year, the Uccha Madhyamik exams were conducted once from April 2 to April 27, 2022, in offline mode. The board has also started the evaluation process which is expected to be completed soon and the result might be declared soon. An official from the board also added "It will take a month to complete the evaluation process, and the result can be expected in June."

The official also said that around 7.45 lakh students appeared for the WB HS exam 2022. Out of which, 4.04 lakh girls students participated in the exams. The exams were conducted at the 6,727 venues and strict COVID-19 norms, including mandatory wearing of masks and physical distancing in the seating arrangement, were followed. The exams started between 10 AM and 1.15 PM.

Last year, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) could not conduct the higher secondary examination due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The board had devised evaluation criteria to prepare results last year.

On the other hand, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently announced plans to conduct the board exams once a year from the next year onward. The CBSE has decided to conduct the exam once as the Covid-19 cases are deepening.
