Considering the issue, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, WBBSE has issued an apology. The board has issued an official statement on the website regarding the question on wbbse.wb.gov.in.
WBBSE Board Exams 2023 Model Paper: Chaos sparked as WBBSE Class 10th Model paper went viral for asking students to mark “Azad Kashmir" on a map of India. Considering the issue, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, WBBSE has issued an apology. The board has issued an official statement on the website regarding the question on wbbse.wb.gov.in.
According to a notice dated January 17, 2023, the West Bengal Board has also stated that any questions related to the option of Azad Kashmir have been dropped from the book of Model Papers for Class 10 Madhyamik.
"There has been an inadvertent error regarding the History Test Paper of Page 132. The first option for map-pointing should be read as 'Kashmir', instead of 'Azad Kashmir'. Further, any/all other questions related to the option of 'Azad Kashmir" are hereby being dropped from consideration from Test Papers Madhyamik (Secondary), 2022-23," read the official statement issued by WBBSE.
The question paper drew flak towards the board and the question-setting process followed by them. According to the TOI report, the WBBSE spokesperson have cleared that the Board has not compiled questions for board exam model question papers. The West Bengal board would work towards finding the teacher and school who set the question and take appropriate action.
Why did WBBSE WB Class 10 Board Exams model paper go viral?
A map-based question in WBBSE Class 10 Madhyamik model paper asked student to mark "Azad Kashmir" on the Indian map. The question also presented Chittagong (or Chattogram), which is a city in Bangladesh, on the map.
