Read CAT Exam Instructions Carefully

Before the commencement of the CAT, time will be given to candidates to read the test related instructions. Read the instructions carefully so as to not make technical mistakes in taking the online test. Use only the computer mouse to enter your answers. Do not touch the computer keyboard at any point of time. This will lock the computer screen.

Take the Official CAT mock test 2022

To have a prior experience of the exam, take the official CAT 2022 mock test available free at the iimcat.ac.in website. This will give you an idea of the question paper navigation and timing system. Having a prior experience will also boost your confidence.

Time Management

CAT exam has sectional time limit of 40 minutes for each section. Thus, you need to be very careful about completing the desired number of questions for each section within 40 minutes. You also need to check and revise before 40 minutes are over for a particular section, as once the 40 minutes are over, the screen will automatically move to the next section. If you haven’t saved your entries before that, then they will not be locked.

Choice of Questions

CAT has 66 questions in total, but it is a known fact that one cannot attempt all the questions in 2 hours. So, you need be careful in choosing the questions you answer. There is negative marking of 1 mark for each MCQ so be very careful of choosing the questions to solve. If you are not sure of accuracy, leave that question. Rather attempt a non-MCQ as it doesn’t have negative marking for wrong attempt. Try to reach the sectional cut off in each section first, the attempt more questions if you have some time left.

Don’t Panic

No doubt CAT is an important exam and you need to score at least about 90 percentile to get a Tier 1 MBA college. But don’t let the pressure of percentile take over your mind. Take the test with a cool mind. Even if you find questions tough, don’t panic. Solve the questions you know well. If the question paper is tough, it will be tough for all candidates. Don’t crumble under performance pressure.

All the best!
