Centre gives nod for AIIMS in Karnataka: K Sudhakaran

Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar has said that the Centre has given a green signal for setting up the All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the state.

Karnataka gets a green signal from Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for setting up All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the state, said the state Health Minister K Sudhakar.

He said the assurance was given during a meeting with Mandaviya in New Delhi. "I thank our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Ji for assuring an AIIMS for Karnataka. This will greatly benefit the state and further enhance the state's health and medical education," he said, as reported by NDTV.

The state had requested the Centre to start an AIIMS in Karnataka to strengthen its health infrastructure.

About proposed NIMHANS centre in Karnataka

Once approved, the institute to come up at Kyalasanahalli near Hennur Main Road in Bengaluru. 

The Health Minister said that a DPR (Detailed Project Report) for a new National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) poly trauma centre and PG institute has been submitted to the Standing Finance Committee (SFC).

The new 538 bedded institute is set to come up in three years at an expenditure of INR 489 crore.

Karnataka's other demands from Health Ministry

The health minister has submitted a memorandum to the Centre for opening a new state level university for nursing and allied health sciences. The state also demands priority for domicile students in deemed universities.
