Chhattisgarh Health Minister urges Centre to accommodate Ukraine returned medicos

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo has once again written to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to request him to allow Ukraine-returned medical students to complete their education in India.

TS Singh Deo's tweet reads, "Wrote a letter to Hon'ble Union Health Minister Shri @mansukhmandviya ji, drawing his attention to the condition of Indian medical students who returned from Ukraine. Urged him to arrange for the completion of the studies of these students from Chhattisgarh & all over India."

"Made a suggestion to him to consider the time period of previous studies of these students & provide them admission in Indian medical colleges by increasing the number of seats. Along with their future, with this move, the number of doctors will also increase in the country," he said in another tweet.

Take appropriate initiative immediately, requests TS Singh Deo

A similar letter was sent to the Centre in March also. “Regarding the future and further education of these medical students of other states including Chhattisgarh, who came back to the country in large numbers, I have urged you through a letter to take appropriate initiative immediately,” reads the letter.

"Altogether, 207 medical students of Chhattisgarh had to leave their studies midway and return to India due to the Russia-Ukraine war," the letter added.

He urged the Centre for early policy decision on this sensitive issue and requested Mansukh Mandaviya that based on the study period of the students, additional medical seats should be allotted for the future of these Indian students.

"This will also remove the shortage of doctors in the country and the public will get the benefit of medical services,” he added.
