A total of 187 examinations which were supposed to start from March 19 has been postponed by Nagpur University.
The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, on March 17, 2020, has postponed all its summer exams. In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, many universities have suspended their classes, ordered students to vacate hostels, advised their staff to cancel travel plans, and cancel events to stop COVID-19 spread. According to the registrar of the varsity Niraj Khaty, a total of 187 examinations which were supposed to start from March 19 has been postponed by Nagpur University. The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University registrar further stated that the postponement of the summer examinations will affect around 90,000 students.
Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) has asked its students to vacate the hostels by March 19, 2020. Only PhD, second-year M.Tech/MDes/MS and fifth-year dual degree students, who are already on the IIT-K campus, have been permitted to stay in the hostels after March 19. For PG students, who are away from the campus, special leaves will be provided to them. The engineering institute has also tweeted recently with advisories laid down against the coronavirus outbreak. Earlier, the institute canceled its annual technical festival 'Techkriti' and suspended classes for the students to curb the outbreak of the epidemic Coronavirus.
COVID-19 has claimed three lives so far in India, while ten have been discharged. The disease has created a state of panic. State governments are ordering the closure of academic institutions, multiplexes, cinema halls, malls, gyms, and all other areas that attract large gatherings. Multiple steps are being taken to combat the rapidly spreading disease. The total number of coronavirus cases has risen to 129 in India.
