According to an official notification issued by DU on February 4, 2021, the university announced the re-opening of the library for research scholars and teachers with immediate effect while maintaining UGC and Delhi University Library System (DULS) specific guidelines.
DU Re-opening: The University of Delhi decided to re-open the central library and its reading rooms for research scholars and faculty as part of its phased reopening. According to an official notification issued by DU on February 4, 2021, the university announced the re-opening of the library for research scholars and teachers with immediate effect while maintaining UGC and Delhi University Library System (DULS) specific guidelines. The notice reads, βLibrary facilities under DULS will be made operational in phases. In the first phase only bonafide faculty members, PhD/MPhil scholars will be allowed to use library reading room facilities. The reading room facilities would be limited to 10 AM to 4 PM during the weekdays i.e. Monday to Friday."
Visitors will be allowed to use all the reading rooms on the research floor and three rooms on the ground floor. However, in order to avail the facility, they need to take consent from the librarian through an email before visiting the library. A facility to borrow and return books will be available. However, no late or return fee will be applied for the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the staff members are asked to handle books wearing gloves and visitors are also instructed to wear gloves, masks, carry hand sanitizer and maintain social distancing while entering the library. The notice said, "The user/staff who does not adhere to the guidelines would face disciplinary action such as cancellation of membership, etc." The University of Delhi re-opened its campus from February 1 for final-year students who require access to facilities for practical purposes.
