In the official letter written to the director, higher education of the Delhi government on June 7, the university informed about the three-month extension it has given to the governing bodies with effect from June 13.

The Delhi University (DU) has decided to extend the term of the governing bodies of the twenty-eight colleges partially or fully funded by the city government by three months owing to the coronavirus pandemic. The letter cited the prevailing pandemic situation as the reason behind the extension.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, had conveyed to the university officials earlier that a further three-month extension is the need of the hour in these very challenging times of the pandemic. The letter was written by the Delhi University also stated the names for the new governing bodies that will eventually be constituted for a period of one year will be sent in due course. Earlier, a delegation of the Delhi Teachers’ Association (DTA), the teacher's wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), met the university officials to demand the extension. DTA in-charge Hansraj "Suman" said the constructive dialogue that has been established between the deputy chief minister and the university top brass has made this extension possible. Of the 28 colleges, 12 are fully funded by the Delhi government.

Meanwhile, The University of Delhi has asked the messaging mobile application Telegram to discontinue a group formed to allegedly help the DU students during their online open-book exam. The University commenced the online open-book exams (OBE) Monday, i.e. June 7 for the final semester postgraduate and undergraduate students. Reports suggest that nearly 35,000 students appeared for the open book exam on the first day. The exams are being held in OBE mode considering the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
