Despite receiving continuous criticism from students and teachers, the University of Delhi decided to go ahead with the open book exams as conducting exams in traditional mode i.e. pen and paper mode is not possible amid the ongoing pandemic situations. A survey-cum-referendum conducted by the Delhi University Teachers' Association suggests that 85 per cent of Delhi University students are against the administration's decision of holding online 'Open Book Exams'.

Meanwhile, Delhi University decided not to hold semester exams for second and fourth-semester students of undergraduate programmes. The first-year and second-year students will be spared the much-resisted DU online exams i.e. ‘Open Book Exams’ planned for the final-year students. According to the official notice, the decision is taken "in view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic". The notice released today i.e. June 4, 2020, on the official website of the University- du.ac.in states, “Given the situation, holding pen-and-paper semester exams is not feasible. Instead, as a one-time measure, an alternative mode of grading will be adopted.”

The notice further reads, “The matter was intensively deliberated in the bodies...based on which it has been decided that as a one-time measure, alternative modes of grading for promotion/results shall be adopted as per composite format for calculating the same for the Intermediate semester/term/year students for academic session 2019-2020 so that students of the university can take their career forward.”
