Delhi University holds event on International Mother Language Day

The Delhi (UoD) organised an event on the theme 'Matribhasha aur Rashtra Nirman' on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. The event was conducted by the Bharatiya Bhasha Samit of DU to mark the closing ceremony day of 'Mother Language Week'.

The programme was attended by faculties, scholars and students of different colleges and departments of the university. It also highlighted the need to preserve, protect and disseminate the idea of cultural rejuvenation by empowering our mother tongue. At the beginning of the programme, Dean of Planning and Chairman of Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti, Professor Niranjan Kumar in his introductory remarks said that we are in the 'Amrit Kaal' in the context of language pride also.

We have an ancient tradition of thousands of years and language has played a key role in the flourishing of those traditions. He said how different colleges of the university organized workshops and seminars on how language learning can help bridge the gap.

DU's official release reads: "The programme was presided by Professor Yogesh Singh, VC of the University of Delhi. Presiding over the programme, in his welcome address, he emphasized that language is related to emotions and it has to be dealt with sensitivity."

He underlined that language is an important aspect of culture and with the disappearance of language, culture is lost too. "He asked the scholars to come forward and work on means and methods for the conservation of. Indian languages. He said that the power of language lies in the power of its people and with the progress of the country, language also flourishes", the release added.

The Union Minister of Education of state, Annapurna Devi, was the chief guest of the event. She congratulated the DU Vice-Chancellor for implementing NEP 2020 and becoming the torch bearer in the process through various skill enhancement courses and value-added courses. She appealed to scholars and researchers to work in the field of language preservation on a priority basis. Professor Balram Pani, Dean of colleges, University of Delhi, Professor Prakash Singh, Director South Campus and Professor Neera Agnimitra, convenor of the Centenary Celebration Committee also graced the occasion.
