On the occasion of “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” the Union Minister addressed the program organized at the University of Delhi.
Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, Dharmendra Pradhan said that no one can be a better example of taking decisions in the interest of the country in difficult circumstances than Sardar Patel. Dharmendra Pradhan was addressing as the chief guest at the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” program organized by the University of Delhi. On this occasion, he called upon the University of Delhi to bring the work done in the unity campaign of Sardar Patel in research. It is noteworthy that the Unity Run was organized by University of Delhi in front of Gandhi Statue near Vice Regal Lodge at 7:30 am on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Monday. The program was presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh.
Addressing the gathering during the program, the Union Minister said that "a lot of work would have been done on Patel in the 100-year history of the University, but in the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, it should be brought into the discussion by bringing it into research in a more relevant form." Remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said that "we are fortunate that because of Patel, today our country is in front of us as a unified India."
Pradhan said that "after 100 years of freedom struggle, when there was hope of getting independence, there were people of different ideologies in the form of national leadership in the country. The role of Sardar Patel in that period has been that of a balancing factor."
He said that "it was not only Patel's responsibility to get political independence for the country, he also took it upon himself to tie the country in the thread of unity. Patel's contribution in creating the political and cultural identity of the country is immense."
The minister discussed the important contributions of Patel in the cooperative movement of the country. While discussing the present scenario, Dharmendra Pradhan said that "in today’s era when the country is going into the 21st century, challenges like promoting employment, planning and entrepreneurship are being facing." He told the educated people of the country and the people engaged in the work of governance that it is their responsibility to create opportunities for the society to lead a dignified life. The minister also called upon the new generation to take inspiration from Patel.
On this occasion the Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh welcomed Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He said in his address that "we got the privilege of celebrating National Unity Day today because the Government of India had decided in 2014 that the birthday of former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel would be celebrated as National Unity Day."
The VC said that "although Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has contributed a lot for India, his greatest contribution is in the form of an integrated India that we are seeing today." On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor referred to two books written by V.P. Menon on Sardar Patel and said that they should be read by everyone so that they can know under what circumstances this country was united during that period. On this occasion all the people also took an oath to dedicate themselves to maintain the unity, integrity and security of the nation. After the program, a Unity Run was organized in front of Gandhi Statue which started from the Gandhi Statue and culminated there too, passing through the University stadium.
During the program, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi, Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Prof. Prakash Singh, Director South Campus, Prof. Payal Mago, Director SOL, Proctor Prof. Rajni Abbi, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Registrar and many dignitaries and students of the CBSE Schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya and the University were present.
