Delhi University (DU) will release the DU application form 2020 for merit-based admissions to its undergraduate programmes in the third week of May next year. The last date to apply for the merit-based admissions to DU will be in the second week of June. Candidates must check for the eligibility of the programme before beginning to fill-up the form. This article lists all details about DU merit-based admission 2020 to its UG and PG programmes.

The varsity has released the DU 2020 exam schedule for the entrance based admissions to its UG, and PG programmes on the official website. The registration for the DU admissions 2020 for exam based UG courses will begin from March 2 and end on March 31 next year. The DU admit card 2020 will be released on April 30 and the exam will be conducted between June 2 and June 9. Q. Can I apply for DU admissions 2020 offline?

No, you cannot apply for DU admissions offline. You can only apply online on the official website of DU or at the help centres created by DU.

Q. Do I need to fill one centralised form and thereafter apply at individual DU colleges for admissions?

You will be required to fill only one centralised form for DU admissions 2020 only. You need not apply to individual colleges.

Q. I want to apply for admissions in more than one course. Is it possible through the centralised form?

You can apply for admissions in multiple courses through Delhi University centralised from.

Q. How to calculate ā€˜Best Fourā€™ percentage?

The best-of-four percentage for DU admissions is formed by calculating marks scores by a student in the subject they are applying for admission as well as one language, two academic or elective subjects.

Q. Can I include more than one Language in my best of four percentage?

No.

Q. Does DU take vocational subjects taken into consideration while calculating the best-of-four percentage?

Yes, this is done but many conditions are attached to it. First of all, DU officials inform that only a single vocational subject can be included in ā€˜Best Fourā€™ for admission in honours programmes.

For other programmes, even two vocational courses (which are approved by CBSE) can be included for admissions. Thus, the basic way to calculate the best of four aggregate will be as follows:

  • For honours programme= Vocational + English (or any other language) + two electives
  • For a non-honours programme= First vocational + second vocational + English + one elective

Q. Can I pursue a BA Pass or BCom Pass programmes at DU?

Yes, DU does offer Pass programmes. It is suggested that you contact the respective colleges in this context as many colleges have now stopped offering these courses.

Q. What is the eligibility criteria for Sports and ECA admissions?

DU colleges are allowed to offer admissions of upto a maximum of 5 per cent of total intake (in each course) through Sports and ECA quota.

Q. There is only one seat in the ECA category. If I apply under this category, but donā€™t get a seat, would I still be considered in the general category?

Thereā€™s a 5 per cent seat provision for ECA as well as Sports category (together). If you do not get admission under the sports/ECA quota then you are eligible to apply for admissions at DU colleges on the basis of cut-offs released for General category.

Q. I am a student residing outside Delhi. How can I apply for admissions at DU?

You can apply for admissions by filling the Delhi University Admission Form. You can apply for admission at DU only through the online mode.

Q. How can I apply for a hostel at DU?

You can apply for a hostel at the respective DU college.

Q. If I have a compartment in Class XII, can I still apply for admissions at DU?

Candidates who have a compartment in a single subject are eligible to apply for admission to Delhi University colleges. However, if the candidate has a compartment in the subject in which he is applying for admission then he will not be considered eligible to secure admission in any DU college for that course.

Q. Can I select the college as well as a course in my DU application form?

Yes.

Q. If I secure admission at one DU college as per first cut-off but later I am eligible for admission in a better course/college, then, would I be eligible for admissions in the second college?

Yes, you can apply for the better course/college but only after you surrender admission at the first college.

Q. Is BA (Hons) Journalism and Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass communication (BMMMC) the same course?

No, they are different courses. BMMMC covers all the fields of mass communication (Print, TV, Radio, Event Management, Advertising, PR etc.). Indraprastha College for Women offers BMMMC course.

BA (Hons) Journalism educates aspirants only in the journalism field (with emphasis on Print Media) and doesnā€™t include event management, advertising and PR as subjects.

Q. I am from the science stream. Can I apply for Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC) or the BA (Hons) Journalism programme?

Yes, you can apply for both the courses.

Q. For which courses are entrance tests conducted for admissions at DU?

Delhi University conducts entrance exams for admissions in courses like ā€“ Bachelor of Management Studies, B.A. (Hons.) Multimedia and Mass Communication, BA (Honours) Business Economics, etc.

Q. I took a gap of a year between my schooling and admission. Will I still be considered for admission at DU?

Delhi University does not differentiate between students with a gap and current year students. All students are expected to meet the cut-offs released by the varsity unless a particular college has mentioned some specific criteria in this regard in their prospectus.

Q. What is the difference between Economics (Hons) and BBE?

BBE stands for BA (Hons) in Business Economics. The course structure is such that an aspirantā€™s skills in both economics and in business are developed. Economics is a foundational discipline for the conduct of business. The emphasis is on planning and organising resources, related to the three business functions of finance, personnel and marketing.

BA (Economics) course offers only core economics studies and subjects taught revolve around microeconomics theory, macroeconomics theory, independent dissertation etc.

Q. I have already submitted my application form for DU admissions but forgot to mention some courses. Can I submit a second form for admissions?

No.

Q. What is the admission process for St Stephens?

The admissions process for St Stephen's College is different from the rest of the DU colleges. For admission at St Stephen's College, aspirants need to fill a centralised DU application form and then fill a separate admission form at the college as well. Admissions at Delhi Universityā€™s St Stephen's College are based on Class XII marks (85 per cent weightage), Interview and test (15 per cent weightage).

Q. How can one apply for admission at Jesus and Mary College?

In order to secure admission at Jesus and Mary College (JMC) at Delhi University, aspirants need to first fill the centralised admission form at Delhi University and thereafter fill the JMC Online Admission Form wherein they need to mention the Registration Number given to them by the University of Delhi Centralised Admission Portal.

Q. Do all the colleges at DU have the same admission process?

Yes, all the college have the same admission process at DU except for St Stephenā€™s College and Jesus and Mary College.

Q. How can I secure admissions into BBE, BBA (BFIA) and Bachelor in Management Studies courses offered at DU?

To secure admission in these courses, you will have to appear for an entrance exam.

Q. I am an SC student. How can I apply for admissions at DU?

By meeting the cut-offs released for SC category students.

Q. I am an OBC student how can I apply for admissions at DU?

By meeting the cut-offs released for OBC category candidates.

Q: Could you tell me about the prospects of BSc Maths, BSc Physics and BSc Chemistry. I am good at all of these courses but donā€™t know which one to take up.

If you have an interest in Maths, you can consider pursuing Computer Sc (Hons) or Statistics (Hons). DU Sources share that the prospects after mathematics are: Actuarial science (insurance), banking, finance & investment, civil aviation, computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, defence services etc.

Prospects after physics are- applied physics, astrophysics, biophysics, astronomy, civil aviation, defence services chemical physics, and teaching.

The prospects after chemistry are- biochemistry, forensic sciences, genetics, hospital management, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, medical, neuroscience, etc.

However, you should opt for the course in which you have an interest.

Q. Are we supposed to fill the application form for a hostel, along with the DU college admission form? How much time does it take for a college to declare their hostel allotment list?

The hostel accommodation forms can be taken from the respective colleges that have hostel facilities. Allotment of hostel rooms is done as per merit and the forms are released by colleges either when cut-offs are declared or after the admissions are over. Colleges release the hostel list before the academic session starts.

You would have to clear the pending paper and then can apply for BCom in DU.
