Grant Delays Impact 12 DU Colleges: Faculty Urge Delhi CM for Timely Funds and Arrears Release
The letter highlights delays in fund disbursement that have consistently disrupted salary payments and caused financial stress for teaching and non-teaching staff.
Faculty members and executive representatives of Delhi University (DU) have written to Chief Minister Atishi, urging the immediate release of the fourth quarterly grant for FY 2024-25 to 12 DU colleges fully funded by the Delhi government. The letter highlights delays in fund disbursement that have consistently disrupted salary payments and caused financial stress for teaching and non-teaching staff.
The faculty pointed out that even though the third quarterly grant was announced on October 13, 2024, the funds only reached colleges by the end of the month, creating a significant time lag. This recurring issue, they say, hampers operations and adversely impacts staff livelihoods.
The letter also referenced a directive issued last year by Atishi, then Minister of Finance and Higher Education, which emphasized the need for a “facilitative approach” in resolving financial delays. Despite these instructions, irregularities persist, prompting fresh concerns about the disbursement process.
Arrears and Other Benefits Pending
In addition to grant delays, the letter highlighted unresolved issues of pending arrears due to promotions, medical reimbursements, pensions, and travel claims. Faculty members expressed frustration over having to seek judicial intervention for arrears, urging the government to release these payments without court battles.
The faculty representatives also warned against the “political weaponization” of these administrative challenges, calling for solutions that prioritize the welfare of teaching and non-teaching staff.
Urgent Call to Action
The signatories have requested the Chief Minister to expedite the release of the pending grant and ensure its timely transfer to the colleges. They emphasized that clearing arrears and addressing systemic delays would alleviate financial hardship for the staff and contribute to a smoother academic environment. The appeal underscores the critical role of timely funding in maintaining the quality and stability of Delhi University’s public-funded institutions.
