Education Minister inaugurates new indoor sports complex at IIT Indore

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated an indoor sports complex at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore. The Education Minister inaugurated the sports complex along with Prof. Deepak B Phatak, Chairperson, BoG, IIT I, and Prof. Suhas S Joshi, Director. 

The sports facility will be key in promoting a healthy lifestyle on the campus and boosting leadership & management skills. The Minister together with Prof. Deepak B Phatak, Chairperson, BoG, IIT Indore, Director Shri Suhas S Joshi, senior academics of the institute and senior officials of the Ministry of Education reviewed a presentation on the programs being offered at IIT Indore and their future plans. 

Education Minister said IIT Indore should aim to enhance industry-corporate linkages and establish itself as a multi-varsity research center to further public good and transform local and rural livelihoods.

He also directed IIT Indore to establish a skill development center in collaboration with local industry, a teacher's training institute and also a multi-disciplinary sports complex to promote sports and skills to drive national missions. 

Meanwhile, Indian Institute of Technology, Indore and the Directorate of Technical Education, Madhya Pradesh have collaborated to support state-run colleges. An MoU has been signed to provide access to lab facilities and other resources at IIT Indore to students of state-run engineering colleges (Jabalpur, Rewa, Ujjain, Sagar and Nowgong) and government-aided engineering colleges (SGSITS Indore, MITS Gwalior and SATI Vidisha). 

According to the official press note, the initiative has been taken to enhance the knowledge base and impart the necessary skills to students graduating from government and government-aided engineering colleges. The initiative will also make students industry-ready, Joint director, technical education, Mohan Sen said.
