The Goa Forward Party has urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik to send the bill back to the house for a discussion.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) has slammed the government of Goa for giving approval to the Goa Private Universities Bill 2020. The GFP claimed that the state government should have had a proper debate in detail in the legislative assembly talking about the benefits of private varsities. The party has urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik to send the bill back to the house for discussion.

According to GFP general secretary Mohandas Lolienkar, the bill’s passage amounted to an admission by the BJP government that it was not able to provide quality education in the state. The general secretary further added that the closure of the government schools took place due to the private schools. In the same way, private universities will result in the closure of Goa University.

He and his party has appealed to the governor to give assent to the bill. They have also demanded an extensive debate talking about the pros and cons of having private colleges in Goa.

Lolienkar also added that education in private universities is utter expensive and the Goan students will not be able to afford the expenditure and cost of studying in private universities. Hence, Goa Private Universities Bill 2020 is not going to benefit the locals. Therefore, the bill should be sent back for debate.

Giving the passing of the Goa Private Universities Bill 2020 another angle, Mohandas Lolienkar said that if the chief minister is being hasty on passing the bill, then there must be some another angle to this decision.
