IIT Bombay free online course carries a course credit of three points. Participating students will receive a general overview of the field of aeronautical engineering.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is now inviting applications for a free online course called "Introduction to Aerospace Engineering". The course has been designed for students of any engineering stream on the NPTEL platform. The course will be completed in 12 weeks and students can apply for the course on or before August 2, 2021.
IIT Bombay free online course carries a course credit of three points. Participating students will receive a general overview of the field of aeronautical engineering. The course consists of ten capsules, each consisting of two lectures that cover a specific concept or area relevant to the subject.
The course will be conducted by IIT Bombay professor Rajkumar S Pant who has bachelor, Masters and PhD degrees in aerospace engineering. The course will be conducted from July 26, 2021, to October 15, 2021. An examination will be conducted on 24 October 2021, for which students will have to pay Rs 1,000 to obtain certificates with logos of IIT Bombay and NPTEL.
All those students who will be participating in the course will be given a certificate average assignment score, which is 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course, and exam score which is75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100. The total score will be based on average assignment score and exam score.
IIT Bombay Free online course on Aerospace Engineering: What it will cover?
The course will cover the various topics related to aerospace engineering through PowerPoint presentations, in-class activities, quizzes, and hands-on assignments. The topics that will be covered over a period of 12 weeks are as follows:
- Atmosphere and its properties
- Nomenclature of aircraft components
- Fluid Mechanics: Incompressible flow, Bernoulli’s Equation, Coanda Effect, and Mach no, Viscous Flow, Boundary Layer, Pressure Measurement
- Aerodynamics: Airfoils, and Lift Generation Theories, Critical Mach no., Types of Drag
- Propulsion: Types of Aircraft Engines
- Aircraft Performance: Steady level flight, altitude effects, glide, climb, ceilings, turn, and pull up, takeoff and landing, range and endurance, range-payload diagram, and flapping wing aerodynamics
- Aircraft Longitudinal Stability, and V-n diagram
