Participants will have to find solutions for the existing environmental problems in the world such as pollution, single-use plastics, lack of means to clean water bodies and waste disposal.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has announced that it will be organising a hackathon named 'Clean-a-thon' to help find feasible solutions to environmental problems including water, air and noise pollution and increasing use of non-biodegradable materials.
Participants will have to find solutions for the existing environmental problems in the world such as pollution, single-use plastics, lack of means to clean water bodies and waste disposal. It aims to generate awareness about the alternatives to plastic, upcycling, recycling and building a circular economy.

They will have to submit a presentation for their probable solutions.

The top three winners will get cash prizes worth Rs 20,000. They will get a lateral entry to grant schemes providing up to Rs 10 Lakhs for their implementing ideas.

In addition, they will be mentored by an IIT Hyderabad-based incubator named i-TIC Foundation.

Founded by the Central Government of India in 2008, IIT Hyderabad was ranked 8 among engineering institutes by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2019 and 22 overall. It was also ranked 198 in Asia by the QS World University Rankings and 94 among BRICS nations in 2019.

In the past years, this institute has established strong ties with many global organisations. IIT Hyderabad has a strong bond with many Japanese universities. It is the first institute to start an executive MTech Programme in Data Science for working executives and professionals. Furthermore, IITH has also signed MoU with the University of Pittsburgh and Kaohsiung Medical University.
