Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal to use technological intervention and explore possibilities in eco-tourism and agro-forestry. 

With this MoU, both the institutes will now work mutually to use technological intervention in the domains of natural resource management, environment, forests, sustainability, climate change, rural development, rural livelihoods, and other allied fields/areas through joint research projects, training programmes, consulting assignments and other such activities, the press release stated.

IIT Indore and IIFM faculties and officials are also looking forward to options to start a sustainability center, working together on eco-tourism and agroforestry. The MoU was signed by professor Suhas S. Joshi, Director, IIT Indore and Subhash Chandra, Director, IIFM, Bhopal.
“Coming together of two premier institutes of Madhya Pradesh is expected to boost research and extension activities in common areas of interest,” IIT-I Registrar Incharge, SP Hota said. A delegation from IIFM and other senior forest officials of Indore region also visited the forest area of IIT Indore and agreed to guide the institute in developing its forest area.

The delegation also spoke about the development of water reservoirs in the forest area, Nagar Van scheme, commercial plantation and controlling forest fires. Recently, IIT Indore signed a MoU with the state government to host 50 meritorious students from MP government engineering colleges for a one-month internship/project without any fee. As part of the agreement, the institute will provide free accommodation and bear the expenses of research.
