The 18-year-old boy died in Jadavpur University after falling from the hostel balcony, family and friends are alleging ragging.

Swapnodeep Kundu, an 18 year old boy, died on Thursday from injuries suffered after a fall from the second floor balcony of the university's boys' hostel the previous night. He had moved to the university just two days before to start the academic session.

As per TOI report, he was found a few feet from the building without a stitch of clothing. He was a first year student of an undergraduate course. The varsity has set up a probe panel, which will submit the report in two weeks.

"He received multiple injuries and was undergoing treatment at the KPC Medical College. He succumbed to the injuries at 4.30 am," a police officer said, as reported by Telegraph India.

The boy was a resident of Bagula in Nadia district's Hanskhali, he said.

As per reports, his classmates have claimed that he was disturbed and not able to sleep at night. The classmates had also informed a teacher about it.

The father of the deceased student claimed that the student was expressing fear for his life and wanted to come back to his home in Hanskhali, Nadia.

Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Shankha Shubra Chakrabarty said that the boy had fallen from the second floor of the university's main hostel at 11.45 pm on Wednesday. Subsequently, he was transported to a private hospital due to multiple injuries, and unfortunately, he died at approximately 4:30 am on Thursday. The preliminary postmortem examination revealed that he had sustained fractures and various injuries on the left side of his head, ribs, and pelvis. Additionally, there were fractures observed along his spine. As per the authorities, certain students conveyed that they had reached out to the dean, Rajat Ray, at approximately 10 pm to apprise him of Swapnodeep's "unusual" conduct.
