Amid the increasing number of novel coronavirus cases, university registrar Vinod Kumar Singh issued an order asking students to vacate hostels and go back home.

The University of Lucknow in its latest notification asked all undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) first semester students to vacate hostels and go back home for their safety in wake of the COVID-19 surge. Amid the increasing number of novel coronavirus cases, university registrar Vinod Kumar Singh issued an order to this effect.

The registrar also informed that the step is being taken considering the health and safety of students and staff members as a few hostel inmates had tested positive for COVID-19 and many students were running a high temperature.

The varsity further informed students that their semester exams were likely to be held in February and the UP government had ordered online classes.

Prior to this order, various students’ organizations demanded the shifting of upcoming offline exams to online mode and holding vaccinations camps on the campus.

National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha were prominent among the organizations demanding online exams. The students started demanding online exams a day after a few students at LU’s Habibullah hostel tested positive for COVID-19.

While addressing the media, NSUI leader Vishal Singh said, “It was nice to see that all student organisations unitedly decided to meet the registrar and handed him a memorandum demanding vaccination camp at the university hostel and online exam instead of offline exam.”

Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha - LU unit president, Kartik Pandey said, “We are united in this fight against corona, and we want the student fraternity to stay healthy.”
